Element Designs is North America’s leading manufacturer of custom aluminum frame glass cabinetry and contemporary architectural millwork components. Our name is synonymous with innovation in the kitchen and bath, commercial, and hospitality industries. But the story of how we reached the top of our field involves a combination of American ingenuity, Swiss precision, fearless entrepreneurship, and 13 years of passion on the part of each of our founding partners.
In 2003, founders Nelson Wills, Kevin Creedon, Beata Klecha, Heinz Uebersax, and Mike Uebersax united around a single goal: introduce to the North American market a very particular, modern style of cabinetry that was popular in Europe. At the outset the team focused on sales and marketing, intending to contract the actual manufacturing of the product to outside companies. But when the founders discovered they were unable to find a reliable partner that could consistently supply highly flexible, custom products to their exacting standards, they decided to take matters into their own hands.
In October of 2004, Element Designs vertically integrated the manufacturing of its products, moving from a downtown office to an industrial area of Charlotte, North Carolina. The company initially produced superior cabinet doors. Then, in 2007, it developed award-winning, patented °eluma shelving. Six years later, in-house backpainting operations began. In 2014, Element Designs acquired the entirety of its 65,000 square foot facility in order to manufacture its expansive catalog of products that includes high gloss PARAPAN® solid surface doors, aluminum frame base systems, magnetic markerboards, and etched glass.
Today, Element Designs is a successful enterprise, with extensive North American sales and a distribution network that enables us to provide the highest level of customer service and support. But it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. Obstacles such as the Great Recession of 2008, consumer resistance to contemporary design, and unfamiliarity with aluminum frame doors required great effort to overcome. Also, foreign and domestic competitors supplying cheap alternatives made with inferior materials has been and remains a challenge
But the commitment of incredible employees and the integration of new, efficient technologies has allowed us to fend off challenges and rivals. As Founder and President Mike Uebersax says, “Our employees’ dedication, hard work and feedback, in addition to our [innovative] use of technology have enabled us to grow our business, reduce our lead time and increase profitability. We continue to see the popularity of contemporary casework components flourish.”
With customers including Masterbrand (kitchen cabinet manufacturer), Geiger International (office furniture manufacturer), E. B. Bradley (distributor), and many more, Element Designs has emerged as a commanding presence in the North American market. Looking forward, we are encouraged by the future of our business, and plan to continue making modern design easy by supplying premier aluminum, glass and acrylic products to existing customers.
In a little over decade, Element Designs has achieved market dominance across the continent, and we’re just getting started. To learn more about us, our team, and our manufacturing process, visit us online at element-designs.com.
